2003

Vistalba, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza

AR$75 (US$25)

Appearance

Deep, bright ruby red.

Nose

Rich and complex. Ripe blackberries and plums, with liquorice, almond and mineral notes.

Palate

Medium-full bodied. Smooth, sweet, round and velvety mouthfeel full of lush black plums and ripe blackberries. Balanced by a soft and gentle acidity, and excellent structure of soft and powdery tannins. Oaky complexities of leather, coffee and subtly integrated black pepper and cinnamon spices.

Overall

This blend (42% Malbec; 32% Cabernet Sauvignon; 16% Bonarda; 10% Merlot) from the "other" Pulenta is simply stunning. Deep, lush, soft, fruit-led, wonderfully complex, and beautifully balanced. Like his brothers at Pulenta Estate, Carlos seems to have the magic touch when it comes to classic blended 'cortes'. Pricey, but worth every penny.
